Village Adventures

As a Village caregiver, it's hard to appreciate the many advancements we've made since 2018, at least until we take a look back at some of our videos. They remind us that we've come a long way in nearly four years. While the conditions for the cats have enormously improved, there are some things that have stayed the same, particularly when it comes to freeloaders.

Many of you who follow us on Facebook and have read our blog posts here are familiar with Copper and Onyx. The two have been residents of the Village at least since 2019, as evidenced in this video. There was a time when the two were part of the same Village colony, before breaking off into two colonies. We call Onyx's colony the Girls' Dormitory and Copper's colony the Boys' Dormitory. It's seems odd how each colony is dominated by one gender, but it works.

The Boys' Dormitory has a high number of residents. We have counted as many as 25 cats at one time, but the daily number hovers around 20 cats. They know the sound of our vehicles and come running when they hear us drive up. If you're trying to conjure up the vision of being greeted my so many cats in the early morning hours, this video will help.

One constant in the Village are the freeloaders, like the turkey vultures, the raccoons and the many squawking birds that descend from the trees when they see us arrive to feed. All of these creatures, while appreciated and in some cases fed, can make feeding the cats difficult. The cats will almost always back away from food when these freeloaders barge in. This video gives you a small glimpse of one such guy.

Every day is an adventure, although we have to admit there are some adventures we could have done without. But, we take this moment to appreciate how far we have come in providing a safe, welcoming environment for all cats that want to live in CATpassionate Village.
