For those of you who follow CATpassionate Village on Facebook, you know that we are not a rescue organization, but a trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) organization. Our mission is to stop the suffering of homeless feral cats caused by overpopulation. The geographic area we focus on is Lutz, Florida. But, sometimes there has to be exceptions, like the one we made for the off-spring of a feral cat that escaped our care and later had kittens.
Determination overcame fear.
Camden, Beck, Casey and Blue were about three months old when we trapped them and their mother. Mom was spayed and vaccinated, then returned to the area where she had caregivers. The kittens came into our care. The first 10 days were rough for them. Fear was written all over their little faces. But we were determined to prepare them for adoption into forever, loving caring homes.
Growing through experience.
By weeks four, five and six the boys (Camden, Beck and Casey) were purring when stroked and eagerly ate Delectables from my fingers. Blue was still less trusting. They were moved to a larger space where they could be heard playing hard at 5:30 every morning. They were given house running privileges (see 33 second video of play) so they could get accustomed to the sounds of a household, other cats and a gentle dog. They had their first and second vet visits for disease testing, vaccines and spay/neuter surgery as well as flea/parasite control.
Blue's breakthrough.
Blue had a break through following her spay surgery. She didn't recover as quickly as the boys, which became concerning. To keep a close eye on her, she was placed in a wine crate cat bed and covered up. I carried her everywhere with me. I gave her honey on her gums to bring up her blood sugar level, had her lick Delectables from my finger and lightly stroked her while she slept.
That night Blue rallied. The next morning, she was purring every time I got near her.
The litter of sweetness was ready for the next leg of the journey--moving into their forever, loving caring home.
This is the third in a series of posts about Tori's kittens.
