Onyx is one of the original residents of the Village. We can’t remember a time when he wasn’t present.
He is sweet, kind, patient and compassionate to his very core. He allows his caregivers to pet him, hug him and event kiss his head. He is often referred to as the Chief Comforter because he has been seen comforting other members of the Village that lack confidence and are always in a state of fear. For example, when Bootsie was younger, the two could be seen curled up together during the day.
Onyx rarely loses his patience with other members of the Village. And while he may be wary of a newcomer, he eventually welcomes those looking for a safe and comfortable place to land.
In the winter of 2022, he got too close to the slow-moving truck of one of his caregivers and went beneath the wheels. They were devastated, because he simply disappeared for more than two weeks. They thought he had surely darted off and died in the brush, despite their repeated searches for him. But, then he miraculously showed up with a limp and a great deal of abdominal swelling. It took some time to regain his confidence, but as soon as he could be handled he was taken to the emergency vet and allowed to fully recover in the home of one of the Village caregivers. He had no broken bones, but a lot of inflammation, which an injectable anti-inflammatory and antibiotic seemed to take care of.
Today, Onyx is back to normal and continues to oversee his portion of the Village with a watchful eye and a kind heart.
